Your Weekend Getaway in ... Cincinnati!
Cincinnati, Ohio. While this riverside town may not be top-of-mind when it comes to a weekend getaway, you'd be surprised at the fun that can be had in just 48 hours if you know where to look.Where To Stay: 21c Museum HotelMix the design sensibility of The Thompson hotel and the quirkiness of The Standard, add some Mid-West charm and then place a contemporary art museum inside of it and you have 21c Museum Hotel. Located in city's downtown area, visitors are greeted by a curated selection of contemporary art which are a part of hotel-wide exhibitions that rotate regularly. During my visit, the work of Yinka Shonibare, Kehinde Wiley and Sanford Biggers immediately set the tone.Rooms are on the smaller side, but the payoff comes in the surprises to be found in the details such as a rubber duckie in the shower, it's popular rooftop bar, it's modern gift shop and it's proximity to the city's Contemporary Arts Center. Where To EatMexican purists won't exactly love this spot because Nada's earnest take on contemporary Mexican is surprisingly different but very, very good. Crowd favorites like their Mexican mac-and-cheese, ceviche, and their margaritas keep the place busy so reservations are needed on busy nights. It's neighboring sister restaurant Boca is also not to be missed either for their fresh take on Italian French cuisine. Where To PlayCincinnati's Over The Rhine or OTR district is what most New Yorker's would describe as having a Williamsburg-like renaissance. Once home to Cincinnati's to beer industry, the entire is revamping itself to eventually become the city's cultural base. Small boutiques, gastro pubs, bars and art spaces abound—perfect for exploring before you return home.
