Chi-Town, the Windy City, the Cleaner New York — well no one calls Illinois' crown jewel that, but maybe we should start? Chicago is a great escape, whether your home is across the country or across the ocean. Like many American cities, there are hole-in-the-wall eateries and activities that locals may have exhausted but for visitors, it's like new baby and Parlour has you covered. Here are some of our new-found favorites in Kanye West's hometown.WHERE TO STAY: If you enjoy a modern yet traditional experience, Hotel Palomar is a great choice. The space equipped with an indoor pool, home-like atmospheres, in-room spa amenities and an exercise room ($188/night). The James Hotel, right in Downtown and steps away from shopping on a warm day, is also a seductive choice ($269/night). Elsewhere, the City Suites may fit the functionality bill. For about $240/night, the Suites includes a complimentary breakfast, afternoon cookies, free wi-fi, and gym access.WHERE TO EAT: If you're in the mood for Italian, Panozzo's Italian Market will give you a slice of Italy and all of their products are from "responsible farms and producers." Obviously you must check out Giordano's for deep dish pizza, think lasagna but with a crust. For more, Table 52 is known for its comfort food like their low country shrimp and grits or lamb ossobuco. And on Sundays the chef's special is fried chicken and waffles — is your mouth watering already?WHAT TO DO: From July 10-14, Taste of Chicago, the annual food and music festival, takes over Chicago's Grant Park. If you like catfish fingers and wine specials, this is the place for you. Jill Scott, Robert Plant and Robin Thicke will also take the festival's stage, and what's better than swaying to sexy R&B and 1970's Rock while munching on a cheesecake stick? Nothing ... unless you count Coachella's drunken father festival, Lollapalooza. From August 2-4th in Grant Park, this annual concert giant will welcome Kendrick Lamar, The Killers, 2 Chainz, Vampire Weekend and more.If you stay at the City Suites, check out Boystown, a bustling area full of pride and great bars. Get lost in Beatnix, a one-stop shop for all things camp and drag. Play dress up with accessories and clothes, turn on some 80s music and have a montage movie-moment with friends. When you're done check out the watering hole D.S. Tequila Company, where every so often the bartenders serve up trivia game night and Gay Idol competitions ... with tacos and tequila. Love much?
