Lady Gaga Visits Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange, Because ... ?
You know how when you see people that are buddies and you have no idea how they got together in the first place? Well, put the recent meeting of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and Lady Gaga into that category. The pop star released a photo of herself visiting Assange during a recent trip to London and I have to say, I'd almost forgotten about Assange's movie-sounding story. From Billboard:
Gaga was in London to promote her debut fragrance Fame, which just launched at upscale department store Harrod's. After the event, Gaga took the night (reportedly five hours) to sit with Assange at the Ecuadorian embassy, where he has lived since June awaiting either asylum or extradition to Sweden on rape and sexual assault allegations. The pop star arrived at the embassy around 7:00 p.m. and left after midnight. While many would try to keep their association with someone like Assange quiet, the singer went another route. In typical fashion, Gaga let her legions of followers in on the news before anyone else by posting a photo of the two on her fan-centric website LittleMonsters.com.
So ... Assange is the gent who released highly controversial documents uncovering the movements of a number of international government agencies, including those in America. People in power were not happy. Assange has also been accused of sexual assualt in Sweden and after escaping apprehension, he requested asylum from Ecuador, while staying in London, and that's where he's been since July. Assange lives in a room inside the Ecuadorian embassy and if he slips out for a moment, the British police have said they will arrest and extradite him back to Sweden to face charges and it's clear that if he reaches Sweden, he'll most likely be shipped to America to face charges in this country as well for leaking classified information. It's all quite a thriller, isn't it? See why I'm wondering what Lady Gaga was doing there?
